Since 1991 the Art Prize Robert Schuman has provided a platform for contemporary art in the Greater Region. It is endowed with 10,000 euros. A jury of eight experts, consisting of two art and culture professionals from each city, will announce the winner at the opening.
The aim of the exhibition is to encourage an intensive dialogue between the different representatives of contemporary art scenes from the participating cities. With this cross-border approach, the art prize follows the ambitious goals of its namesake, the politician Robert Schuman (1886 - 1963), who is considered the founding father of Europe. As a French Foreign Minister and first President of the European Parliament, he worked intensively to promote intercultural dialogue on an international level. The mission of the Art Prize Robert Schuman is therefore to document and promote artistic creation in the Greater Region in order to make a contribution to the integration of Europe.
Within the last 20 years, the art prize has become an example of success for cross-border cooperation in culture and is also the most important happening in contemporary art in the Greater Region. This year's 15th edition of the art prize is organised under the direction of Katharina Ritter, artistic director of the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken and curator of the city of Saarbrücken, and Kamila Kolesniczenko, Project Coordinator. They are working on the project together with Julie Reuter, curator for the city of Luxembourg, Célia Charvet, curator for the city of Metz, and Simon Santschi, curator for the city of Trier.
